Task 1: Distribution methods
What can you find out about how the product reaches its audience?
Hellblade was advertised in many different ways to make sure it was reached to as many people as possible. For example, they advertised by using different trailers to suit different people. Also, they advertised on online platforms like Steam and Xbox etc. Also, they heavily advertised on Social Media.
Is it straightforward or complex?
When marketing a product of this agenda, Ninja Theory had to make sure it was going to meet the standards of the people on the certain platform. For example, they would have to market the product in a way that it would attract the players on that platform, as players on different platforms have different expectations. Therefore, it can be fairly complex for the developers.
Is it expensive or cheap?
When it comes to cost of distributing the product, it all depends on the platform. For example, Xbox may charge them more to market the product on their platform when compared to Steam as there are more players on Xbox. Therefore, it all depends on the platform.
Are there mainstream methods of using the product, like Playstation, or is the game maybe just on Steam?
Hellblade is on many different platforms. This list includes Xbox, Playstation, Nintendo Switch, Windows and steam. This is good for the game developers as they can market the product on a much larger scale as it is on more than just one platform.
Task 2: Advertising
Where is the product advertised? website/magazine etc

Task 2: Advertising
Where is the product advertised? website/magazine etc
Hellblade was advertised in many different ways. The biggest way it was advertised was online. It was advertised by using the press, trailers and pop-up advertisements on popular gaming websites like Steam.
Placing - where on the media text is it advertised
Most adverts for games are broadcasted on television and/or are on websites. When advertising the game, the developers, Ninja Theory, and the advertisers had to make sure it was suitable for all audiences or only advertise it in suitable places. If it is advertised on TV for example, the advertisers would have to state it is an 18 game and Ninja Theory would have to make the trailer appropriate.
How? animation/video/print?
Most of the Hellblade's adverts were videos. This is better than just a print as it allows the developer to show the game and its features off more when compared to just a standard print. It is also more interesting for the viewer as they have more to see than just a still advert.
How does the advert target it’s audience - colour? imagery?
When advertising Hellblade, Ninja Theory were very smart. In their posters and in their video trailer, they use dull colours mainly but give the main character and key points a slight bit of colour. They made the rest dull to make them small bits of colour stand out more. This makes the character seem more important and also makes them stand out more than anything else in the trailer etc.
